Assumptions and limitations

Illustrative calculation only. APR is approximated as a monthly effective rate. Actual card interest, payment allocation, promotional eligibility, credit limits and minimum payments differ. The same fixed repayment is used for both cards. The transfer fee is added to the transferred balance and may accrue interest. A monthly payment of zero does not model minimum-payment rules and is not a viable repayment plan. Never assume you will qualify for an offer; avoid new spending on the card.

How to calculate a UK balance transfer fee

Multiply the amount you want to transfer by the advertised percentage fee, then add any fixed fee if one applies. For example, a 1.5% fee on £6,000 is £90 (£6,000 × 0.015), making the opening transferred balance £6,090 if the fee is added to the balance. Check the card terms: fees, introductory rates, eligibility and payment rules vary.

Is a 0% balance transfer worth it?

Compare the transfer fee with the interest you might otherwise pay and whether your affordable monthly repayments could clear the balance before the promotional period ends. A 0% offer does not guarantee approval or make debt disappear. This calculator illustrates costs under its stated assumptions, not whether you will be accepted.
