A wedding can fit your total budget but still cause a cash shortage when several suppliers require payment in the same month. Plan by payment due date, not just by category.
Build a payment timeline
- List each supplier and its total agreed price.
- Split the total into deposits already paid, upcoming deposits and final balances. Confirm they add up to the supplier's total.
- Record the due date for each payment and compare it with actual paydays before the event.
- Include confirmed contributions only. Do not count hoped-for gifts or uncertain help as cash.
- Add guest-linked expenses such as food, invitations and transport, then check how changes in guest count affect the totals.
- Identify the month with the highest payments and keep an emergency buffer outside the wedding budget.
Illustrative example
| Supplier | Total | Deposit | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venue | £4,000 | £800 | £3,200 |
| Photographer | £1,000 | £200 | £800 |
The two suppliers total £5,000: £1,000 in deposits and £4,000 in remaining balances. If the £4,000 is due in the same month, check that month's available funds before agreeing further spending.
